The food at the Halfway House is good simple filling food. At lunchtime we serve sandwiches, sausages and mash, jacket potatoes, thick homemade soup with crusty bread, traditional ploughmans lunches as well as an ever-changing range of seasonal specials.
In the evenings we are renowned for our range of homemade curries, which come with popudums, lime pickle and all the trimmings. If you don't like curries then that's not a problem as there are always alternatives including casseroles and other traditional dishes such as ham egg and chips.
Vegetarians will always find at least one vegetarian main dish as well as other suitable dishes such as filled jacket potatoes and salads.
The smoke curing of food is a process that has been employed by the peoples of the world since before records began. People used the smoke curing process as a method of preservation but now it is mainly used to add flavour.
The Halfway House Smokery started smoking food in May 2005. We have an experienced food smoker in Kate Osmand previously of the river Brue smokery who has been working with the landlord's daughter Caroline Litchfield to start producing our own smoked food.
We are presently hot smoking Scottish salmon and local chicken and bacon.
